The djembe drum, rich in overtones, is one of the
most popular instruments indigenous to West Africa, and is suitable for
stage and drum circle. Everything in the design of the ancient
instrument conspires to deliver a wide palette of overtones. When
conceiving the LP Aspire Bowl-Shaped Djembe, Latin Percussion designers
looked to the belly of the beast-to the distinctive top portion of the
hourglass/goblet resonating cavity that is responsible for the
germination of the daunting low fundamentals and snapping high
frequencies. The operative assumption was: if we alter this chamber, we
can focus the sound. The assumption proved correct.
LP engineers
have created a special bowl shape for the Aspire djembes, which serves
to attenuate errant overtones and focus an increased range of
fundamental pitches. In addition, the open tones gain incredible
sustain and projection, a characteristic that is highly desirable in a
djembe drum. Created of kiln-dried, environmentally friendly
Siam oak, the LP Aspire Bowl-Shaped Djembes are 25" tall and are fitted
with 12-1/2"-diameter hand-picked goatskin heads. Includes EZ Curve
rims, designed to minimize hand-to-rim trauma, while mechanical tuning
is simple, smooth, and flawless. The drum may be played on your oak,
maple, or exotic hardwood floor due to a protective rubber, non-skid
bottom. The Latin Percussion Aspire Bowl-Shaped Djembe is an
innovation in true LP style-that is, the pursuit of authentic
indigenous sounds and the researching of new ways to attain them. The
modestly priced instrument is suitable for home, studio, stage and drum
circles.
